Documents coded, accounts reconciled, and the close drafted before your team logs in.

You don't pay a dollar until it's built and working.

All discovery is free. Each piece is billed only once it is running in your business.

ThirdAxis builds custom AI systems for CPA firms and bookkeeping practices, connected to the ledger and practice software you already run. Client documents read and coded with a confidence score on every line, bank and card reconciliations drafted overnight with the exceptions explained, month-end packets and variance commentary written from the actual numbers, and a client request desk that chases what is missing. Your staff work the exceptions, and a CPA signs what goes out.

Where a firm’s hours go.

Keying documents, matching transactions, chasing clients for the last statement, and rebuilding the same packet every month. Fewer people are doing that work each year. The figures below are industry-wide.

A small accounting office in the early evening, desks with spreadsheets on dual monitors and binders on the shelves

Most of a close is assembling and checking. The judgment is a small share of the hours.

We work with CPA firms, bookkeeping and client accounting practices, and in-house finance teams. The pattern is the same in each: a stack of client documents, a ledger that has to match the bank to the penny, and a deadline that does not move. Multi-entity clients, where the work repeats across companies, cards, and ledgers, are where the systems pay off fastest.

Most firms cannot hire their way out of the busy months. The systems below take the first pass on the repetitive work, show their reasoning on every item, and leave your staff with a short list of exceptions to decide. Every number stays traceable to the document it came from.

The systems we build for firms.

Capture and coding is above. The next three cover reconciliation, the month-end packet, and the client requests that fill the inbox in between.

Bank and card reconciliation, drafted overnight.

Every transaction is matched to its receipt, statement line, and ledger entry across accounts, cards, and entities. Duplicates, personal charges, and missing receipts are flagged with a one-line reason, cardholders are asked for what is missing, and the reviewer accepts or sends back each exception with one click.

The close checklist tracks itself as reconciliations finish and entries post. Standard entries are drafted from rules approved once, accounts that moved past your threshold are flagged, and the commentary is written from the actual numbers in your template. Repairs and maintenance rose $18,420 (61%) over August. Most of the increase is one invoice: the membrane replacement on Building B at 410 Larkin St, billed October 9 and dated to September work.

At $16,900, the membrane line may qualify as a capital improvement under the firm’s policy. Expensed as drafted. Reviewer decision needed.

Utilities rose 12%, in line with the cooling load in the September degree-day figures for the two larger buildings.

A client request desk for email and the portal.

“Did you get my 1099?” is answered from the request list, the missing statement is chased on a schedule, and every received document is filed to the right engagement. Questions that need judgment, like whether to amend a return, go to the right person with the thread attached.

Hi, did you get my 1099 from the consulting work? I uploaded it last night. Also, do you still need anything else from us for the October deadline? And should we amend last year since I found another donation receipt?
Thanks, the 1099-NEC came through this morning and is filed with your return. Two items are still open: the year-end 1099 from your Schwab account, and receipts for any donation over $250. You can upload both through the portal link below. On amending last year, I have passed your question to your engagement partner, who will reply directly.

And more we build for firms.

Claude Cowork rollout and enablement

We set up Claude Cowork for the firm with shared projects, client file context, and guardrails, then train each team on the workflows where it saves the most time.

Controls testing on every transaction

Duplicate payments, round-number entries, unusual vendor activity, and missing documentation checked across 100% of transactions, kept as a standing report for the audit.

Standard entries from approved rules

Accruals, deferrals, prepaid amortization, and recurring intercompany entries drafted each month from rules the reviewer approves once.

Tax workpapers from source documents

Trial balance mapping, book-to-tax adjustments, and the import file for the tax software prepared from the client's documents and ledger.

Multi-entity consolidation

Several companies, cards, and ledgers rolled up with eliminations drafted, which is where the hours add up fastest.

Client onboarding

Engagement letter, organizer, bank feed and portal setup, and the first document request sent from one intake form.

Some of this already exists. We would not rebuild it.

Your ledger keeps the books, your practice software tracks the work, and your tax software files the returns. What sits between them today is your staff, keying and chasing. That is the part we build.

Your general ledger
QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage Intacct, or NetSuite stays the book of record. Coding, reconciliations, and entries are written back into it, never kept somewhere else.
Practice management and client portals
Karbon, Canopy, TaxDome, or Financial Cents, if that is what you run. Requests, due dates, and documents are read from it and statuses written back.
Tax and close software
UltraTax, Lacerte, CCH Axcess, Drake, and close tools like FloQast keep their jobs. We prepare clean inputs for them instead of replacing them.

How we work with a firm.

A CPA reviews and signs everything.

The systems draft, match, and flag. Postings, packets, client replies, and anything that touches a return are approved by your staff, and the signature stays with a licensed person.

Review mode first, automatic only when proven.

Everything starts with read-only access and a person approving each item. A category moves to automatic only after it is accurate on your real clients, at a confidence threshold you set.

Built inside what you already run, owned by you.

Your ledger, your practice software, your portal, your inbox. Fixed price per system, billed once it is running, and the code and accounts are yours.

The screens on this page are concepts prepared for discussion, not finished software. The clients, vendors, documents, accounts, amounts, requests, and dates shown in them are invented and describe no real firm or client. The reconciliation demo is scripted with invented data and calls no model. The photographs are generated images. Industry figures are from Gartner’s survey of 497 controllership staff (published February 2024), a Wall Street Journal analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data, and APQC’s general accounting benchmark. Software names are examples, not a claim about what any firm uses. Nothing here has been scoped or priced; that is what a first call is for.
